CCS Publishes Benchmarks for Access to Heart Failure Care
in Canada!

July 28, 2006

In response to the lack of Canadian benchmarks and targets for access to cardiovascular care, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society Access to Care Working Group was charge d with the task of evaluating and summarizing the currently available data with emphasis on the risk of adverse events as a function of waiting time.

In addition to other prevalent cardiovascular conditions and procedures, the Working Group identified gaps within the existing data as they pertain to heart failure care. Using best evidence and consensus, the Access to Heart Failure Care article focuses on timely access to acute and chronic heart failure care including access to heart failure disease management programs and physician care (heart failure specialists, cardiologists, internists and general practitioners).

The CCS is proud to include these benchmarks within its Heart Failure Consensus Program and congratulates the CCS Access to Care Working Group for this important contribution to heart failure care in Canada .
